I’m just not sure about Arctic Air on CBC yet! I really think my uncertainty comes from the fact I want the show to show the real Yellowknife, the real north. They wont do that though, that just wouldn’t make for good TV.
My video is rather harsh in the sense I pick apart most of this episode, but there is one part I was really not sure about. You will be able to guess when you watch it.
I did get a reality check after making this video when a friend pointed out the CBC show Republic of Doyle. I have never seen a full episode of that show, but it is based in St. John’s over on the east coast and apparently is also unrealistic. Which makes sense, this is TV after all.
I do hope next weeks episode is better and I have a better approach to watching it. What are you thoughts on the second episode?
Last year I made recap videos for the CBC reality show Village on a Diet, so this year I thought I’d try my hand at Arctic Air. Just short 5 minute video of me sharing my thoughts on the past episode.
I don’t have cable tv at the moment, so I am unable to watch the show when it airs. I was able to watch it the morning after though through CBC’s website.
In the video I discuss my full thoughts on the show. Although re-watching it I feel I was a little harsh. I did like the episode a lot and felt it portrayed Yellowknife correctly, the little it showed. I think the show will be great for “northern promotion” although I think Ice Pilots does something similar already.
NWT Tourism is also hoping it strikes the right cords with viewers and prompts them to considering visiting the NWT. So much so that they partnered up with the show, and aired its new commercial during the premier. They have also launched a Facebook Page to feature us northerners, so no matter where I am or what I am doing, I think you should check it out so see what the NWT has going on.
You laugh because I say “vlog” but while this video may have no real value, video can be a great media to share. Social media and photography tips, travel reviews, funny things are all possible video.
Lisa Bettany inspires me on two levels, first she is an amazing photographer and secondly she took the risk to help create an iPhone app. That iPhone app is Camera+ and is widely successful.
She went from very little to something big, because she used her head and made something of herself. Oh and did I mention she is Canadian. Creativity and Tech is alive in this country.
Brent can’t stand the video, but I think it is awesome. It was shared by someone on Facebook who said anyone who watches this and doesn’t smile is a Grinch and I’d have to agree.
I’d even go as far as saying I would do this myself if I had thought of it first.
