An Update and Things to do.

Well it is Monday and I go back to work tonight but I need to get somethings done before hand.

  • Figure out what classes I’m going to take at school.
  • Call school register for those classes.
  • Go to NNSL get my %50 off web subscription.
  • Write a YkClassifieds review on YkOnline.
  • Write up a CanLiving post on my Bike.
  • Continue work on the layout of YkOnline.
  • Update clients sites The Rock and SideDoor.
  • Measure and cut foam for seats in my camper.
  • I’m sure I have forgotten something

Over the weekend the Trade Show was on and I was there taking some pictures and meeting new people. It was a really good time and it was good to see so many people coming out. I wrote about it on YkOnline.ca as well as posted some of my pictures.

On Sunday after the trade show, Mothers day lunch, and when the sun finally come back I went out to the Camp Ground and got some spring photos. You can find them all [HERE] and some below.

I Think I Went Over the Edge

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am officially crazy. Yes!

That is all….

No I’m just kidding but that’s not to say what goes threw my head and what I do isn’t beyond normal. So in the last couple months while trying to take steps forward, I have probably managed to step back. Last October I started off with one blog, The Bushman, it was going to be my personal blog and so it will be. Sometime in February I came up with the marvelous idea of starting a new blog about something more direct. Something that would bring in traffic for one general thing; rather than stuff from every end of the spectrum. CanLiving was born a month later, My Canadian Living Blog. The blog is about things I do on a day to day bases, my experiences, etc. That site is slow coming but it is slowly shaping and I see a good future for it.

That would bring us to mid April, when I registered the domain ykonline.ca. I don’t even remember why I registered it. When it only cast $9 to register a domain I don’t hesitate very often as that is cheaper than a meal out these days. I continued on blogging at my 2 blogs, more frequently at The Bushman and even more specifically blogging about Yellowknife. I noticed that I took to writing about this place I call home, whether about local companies online or my opinion on that weeks Yellowknifer. What I have always wanted to do is make a blog the best it can be, so I saw an opportunity to make something. The other day I installed a fresh version of WordPress under YkOnline and imported all my “Yellowknife” related posts onto it.

The Plan

CanLiving will stay the same it will not change. It will continue to grow and unfold. Watch out for more Kooking with Kyle

YK Online will be where I write about anything Yellowknife. A Pretty simple concept. There will be reviews, pictures, opinions. You could even be on there if you wanted. There is no real plan for this blog, I will just keep doing what I was doing before and let it take me where ever. The interesting part will be when I go to school in the fall, I haven’t quite figured out what will happen to it then. We will cross that bridge when we get there.

The Bushman will be more me again. What I’m working on, what I’m thinking about, what is bothering me. Personal stuff. Simple as that.

Okay now you can tell me I am crazy. Its ok I can take it. We’re all searching for something, this is just how I do it.

Yesterday was Almost Forgotten

Last night at about 2am while I was trying to get to sleep, I was thinking. I was coming up with all these ideas for posts, how things work in wordpress, and what I need to do today.  It was great it. I was so excited that I was coming up with all this. Then the thought of forgetting it all came to mind. I wanted to get up so bad and get a notebook to write them down. During the day I have notebook in front of me most of the time while I’m at the computer and a pocket sized one while I’m out but at 2 am I didn’t have the strength to get up. I didn’t want to get out of bed because it was finally warm, while my room is almost always at the outside temperature. So I started review all the ideas I had thought of in my head, I went over and over and over them in my head in dear hope I would remember them the next day.

WELL GUESS WHAT!?

I didn’t and I can’t remember a thing. It drives me wild. This is exactly why I would volunteer to get a USB port in my head so I can export my thoughts as text files.  I know it is extreme, so today I went out and bought yet another notebook. Guess where this one is going to go? You’re right, under my pillow it goes. I know I sound like a little girl with her diary but damn it I need those ideas.

I have been lacking on my CanLiving posts. I do have some topics written down that I just need to turn into posts but most of yesterday I got caught up playing with a version of WordPress.  Eventually I had to stop and tell myself I needed to step back and prioritize. I have a tendency to come up with supposedly good ideas, work it all out with a plan, figure out how it will work, build it and then watch it die because I don’t or forget to make the effort to keep it going. Needless to say I do not want that to happen with CanLiving.

Yesterday I also got a big surprise. A friend approached me asking if I was stalking/ copying them, at first I was confused until I realized that we both had a very similar idea for the next big thing around here. I was purely amazed that we both had come up with idea only days apart and for much of the same reason I am guess. It’s Funny how things mysteriously work up here in the north.

Now for a random piece of information, a Russian man translated his first name into English. His name when said in English is Bushman. Huh!

CanLiving: Cleaner Camper

Well with spring here, or at least I thought it was, comes the joys of pulling, heaving, and prepping all the toys and gear we use through out the summer.

Getting there

For me this meant digging out my camper. I suppose I could have left it until the snow had completely gone but considering it might have been sitting on a frozen swap I wasn’t going to risk having it transform into a submarine. The digging actually went much easier than I anticipated. The pile, which was a mere 4 feet high, was all packed snow so I was able to use my snow block method to move it……………….[Read More]

Cooking with Kyle on CanLiving

I am attempting to start a new video series on Canliving.ca. It will be called Cooking with Kyle and will be a video 50% of the time. In the most recent video which was just published, I demonstrate how you can make a quick simple meal of Mini Meatloaf. Its a neat recipe I got off a friend last fall while down south and since then anyone I make it for loves it.

Here is the link to the post so you can give it a try.

CanLiving: Cooking with Kyle #1

Well the menu called for Ham with Perogies with Bacon and Onions so I got going.

The ham that was planned for the meal had been cooked the previous day and was already so there was no need to prepare it. On to the perogies I went, which were a frozen brick. These perogies where not just store bought, they were homemade Ukrainian Perogies and because of that they were completely uncooked. When store bought perogies are frozen they are easy to pull apart but not these homemade one. If I tried to pull them apart they would be destroyed. So I worked with what I had, instead of boiling them in a pan I used a large pot…………………..[Read More]
