Village on a Diet: Episode 5 Recap

Here it is Episode 5 recap of Village on a Diet on CBC. Again, my videos are getting longer, but probably worth it as I go through and give my thought on everything that has happened in this episode.

You could say that this is the “Diet Blues” week as depression and tensions run high about losing weight, quitting smoking and changing lifestyles.

Watch the video or not. Leave me your thoughts on this weeks Village on a Diet!

Village on a Diet: Episode 4 Recap

I liked episode 4 of CBC’s Village on a Diet, as it wasn’t so much about the exercise. It was more about the lifestyle and psychology of it all. I learned that you shouldn’t make working out a chore, but rather to make it fun. Which makes common sense, if we think more positive about something it will probably be easier.

Last week I got a email from a viewer suggesting I add more of my opinion into the recap, which is what I tried to do for this weeks. Unfortunately, I think I might have come across as a sarcastic jerk. Nonetheless, it is who I am, I will find the groove soon enough.

As well as the video below, I have also added an audio version above, which you can also subscribe to on iTunes by clicking here.

My recaps are getting longer and longer, but let me know what you think. Also please leave your comments about Episode 4 of Village on a Diet.

Village on a Diet: Episode 3 Recap

We have now seen 3 episodes of CBC’s Village on a Diet and we are starting to see some change in the residents lives.

This episode was based on eating healthier. Chef Jonathon came to town and did a cooking demo, which looked like it went over most people heads. This is not surprising, the people of Taylor seemed to enjoy calling the Pizzeria and having it delivered to their door. As a truck of fresh foods unload, some don’t even know what some of the vegetables are, which I think is a little far fetched.

As I mention more in the video, we continue to follow the lives of the Fraser family, with the rivaling sisters and a winer of a mother, Jamie who is motivated to fit her wedding dress, teenager Jonathon who can’t seem to keep hydrated and Brent the volunteer firefighter who comes around to eating healthier.

We also see some tension between Chef Jonathon and Chef Melissa of the Pizzeria. Jonathon tries to show Melissa that you don’t need to load a pizza up with meat and think dough for it to taste good. Although a struggle, she does come around, but does want to help make Taylor a healthier place to live. Personally, I like a thinner pizza.

The results from this weeks weigh in:

  • Sara Fraser  – loses 3lbs
  • Jen Fraser – loses 2lbs
  • Rob Fraser – loses 2lbs
  • Colleen Fraser – gained 3lbs
  • Jonathan – loses 3lbs
  • Brent – loses 18lbs over all
  • Jamie – loses 9lbs

Village on a Diet: Episode 2 Recap

The second epsiode of Village on a Diet on CBC was, in my opinion, slightly less dramatic. Then again this may be a good thing, that way we know that it is real. This is after all no Biggest Loser.

The big “challenge” for this episode was the climb of the Taylor, BC hill, you can hear more about this in the video as Andrew recalls he childhood of climbing the hill.

We get to know some new residents as well as checking in with some from the previous episode. I still don’t have the memory to remember names yet, but eventually I will know these residents.

The walking course that lies inside of the Lone Wolf Golf course was expanded with the addition of workstations as well as an extra couple km’s.

Nothing in this episode was overly dramatic, which, again, I like in reality tv. The big moment was right at the end when they did a weigh in. I think we expect to lose a lot when we make a dramatic change, but that wasn’t the case for many on the show. Most only lost a few pounds, while one didn’t lose any. This takes time and a lot of work.

As you heard in the video above, I missed a couple days of my Wii Fit activity, but am forcing myself to do at least 15 minutes of exercise a day what ever it maybe.

Village on a Diet: Episode 1 Recap

Last night was the premier of Village on a Diet in Taylor, BC. Taylor is the town located just minutes away from Fort St John, where I am living. Basically for three months the town was challenged to lose a Ton of weight. All the while it was documented and followed several main characters.

I video on Twitter and Facebook when the show came on was awesome to see. There was a lot of conversation going about the show. Some folks who were local and others that were not. A friend who grew up in Taylor told me it was very weird watching the show and seeing all these people he knew from a young age go through this challenge.

For me and I’m sure many others it has provided temporary ambition to be more active. I explain more in the video, but having just discovered I have a Wii Fit in my apartment I am going to attempt to use it for 30 minutes each morning. To start.

I enjoyed the first episode. Although some were a little cynical, which I can understand. We all know that as soon as a camera is on us, we behave differently than normal. The show was well done though. I did finish watching with one question though, what happens when the show leaves. Will the trainers help the residents continue a healthy routine? What do you think of the show?

She Found the Shoes

Las April I was in Hawaii with the rest of my family. We did our fair share of shopping while there and one of those stores was Ross Dress For Less. The store is much like the Canadian chain Winners. It has discontinued, incorrect or over stock clothing.

The best thing I found at this store was a pair of shoes, which I came to love. I have wide feet which makes finding shoes a challenge any day of the week. These shoes fit and not just fit nicely, they fit perfectly. They were a 12w and were so comfortable.

There was nothing wrong with the shoes, I later found out the reason they were there was because they had been discontinued. I wore them everyday, to work, biking, and on. I ended up wearing them out at a quick pace and by September, there wasn’t much shoe left.

At this pointed I wanted another pair, but wasn’t heading State side anytime soon, so I started looking online. Unfortunately I didn’t have any luck find a pair. The makers, Perry Ellis, no longer had a shoe section on their website, and eBay had nothing. I then went to a source that I was sure wouldn’t let me don’t, Zappos. Zappos being the famous online shoe store for being incredibly helpful and having a huge selection.  I asked their Twitter Support for help finding the shoes, but still nothing. Even the folks that deal with shoes everyday couldn’t find me another pair of these shoes. Then there was Vegas.

Last October my mother took a trip to Las Vegas with her mother. Of course they did their share of shopping. Fast forward to Christmas Day, when I open a present from her with a pair of the shoes inside. I was ecstatic. Apparently she had gone to another Ross Dress For Less and happen to find the only Perry Ellis shoes in the store which happened to be my size, 12w.

Perry Ellis Shoes

I’m stoked that I have another pair and can’t wait to wear them. I currently where a similar shoe, but from Skechers, which still have a lot of life in them only having them for 2 month now. I imagine by spring it will be time to change shoes.
