Blogging About Being Blogged About

I’m not entirely sure if you are suppose to blog about yourself getting blogged about or not, but what the heck.

As you might have noticed, I started doing video recaps of the new CBC show Village on a Diet, which takes place 20 mins from here in Taylor, BC. It is a neat show, with real people and real problems. My videos are uncut and amateur, but also give the perspective from someone who lives in the area and is not in the best of shape either.

Anyways, CBC has taken a real social angle with the show and is engaging a lot with viewers on Twitter, Facebook and their Live Right Now website. They are doing a nice job as well. So well actually that they caught wind of my rinky dink project of recaps and blogged about it.

The post is a short and to the point, but plugs me, not once, not twice, but three times. Not only that but the video is also embedded in the post. And hey, I’m still a kid at heart and it is neat to get recognition. Go check it out for yourself and of course don’t forget to follow my Village on a Diet recaps.

British Columbia and their Winter Weather

I like it here in Northern BC, it is really like a less-harsh version of a Yellowknife Winter. They get the snow, the dry days, the clear skies and some of the temperatures. Yes only some of the temperatures. Fort St Johners, in my books, you got it good, so don’t complain. I do suppose it is what you are use to though.

On average I would say Fort St John and the rest of Northern BC is about 10 degrees warmer than the Yellowknife temperatures I have experienced. Right now in Fort St John it is -24°C, which to anyone in Yellowknife sounds pleasant and enjoyable, but not to the people here. Apparently these are the cold temperatures. That’s not the only thing which bugs me.

Lets talk about our little friend the Wind Chill. The Wind Chill does not determine the weather. Yes I agree the wind can be a b!tch, but dress properly than. The Wind Chill will only affect exposed skin, so wear a jack that wind proof and a toque. And since we are on the topic, lets talk about vehicles in the winter.

Turns out the Wind Chill doesn’t affect a vehicle, at all! Vehicles also don’t really need to be plugged in until at least -20°C and I have proof, it is called Yellowknife being below 0 for 6 months at a time. Plugging you car in at -10°C will just waste you energy. I don’t even have a powered parking spot and I have yet to have a problem, although admittedly it is getting colder out and I can tell it is harder to turn over. Same goes to you desiel truck boys, they don’t need to idle all night in -15°C.

Wind Chill

I am crazy yes, and this is a rant of sort, but I don’t think many people are aware of some of these things, or just are not prepared to live in the area.

Brent Hodson my Informant

I would have to say that Brent Hodson is my informant. As it appears and as he so gleefully pointed out this morning my previous two posts were information from him. He knows the know of Fort St John, you know. So naturally I need to point that out and point out his bloggidy, so maybe he’ll use it more often.

Brent’s Blog: Well it reads like a book, no seriously, go look at it his WordPress theme looks like a book. Not my first choice but cool nonetheless. Brent is all over the Social Media scene, but I would like to see more from his blog. Further developed thoughts on the World of Fort St John, Pop Culture, Music and Politics. What’d you say Brent can we expect that?

Fort St John is the place to be!

I got a secret plan for Rick Mercer, but that is a story for a later date. Anyways we caught wind today that he had mentioned Fort St John’s High on Ice festival at the end of week, but I have no clue when his show is actually on. Thankfully Brent watched it and actually recorded the clip of him saying it (shhh don’t tell CBC).

High on Ice is, if you didn’t know, not a drug dealers convention, but rather a awesome winter festival with all sorts of activities. A major one being Ice Carving, which brings participants from all over the world. Check out more at: http://www.fortstjohn.ca/hoi/

Speaking of reserving space on the radiator, it is going to be cold this weekend.

Real Life Sh!t My Dad Says

Have you ever seen the sitcom with William Shatner called Sh!t My Dad says. It is funny, for me anyways. It is based off a book, which is based off of a twitter account of a real dad who says this stuff. Well thanks to Brent Hodson, we have now found another grumpy, grouchy Dad who thinks he’s got the world figured out. Thanks to his son, Scott, for posting his dad and adding in the sub titles, we can only image what a Sunday Supper with the folks would be like.

Is your dad like this, mine isn’t.
