The time goes by.

So there he was out of school in something new……

Where is he now, well the same place he was 6 months ago. Working. What do you do when you have a brain on your head but no idea what to do with your life? You work. That’s what he did and he worked and worked, with little time off. He enjoyed it and got to learn so many new skills. Work the type of Job he did taught him more than he could have ever expected. From purchasing to customer service to detailing, he was taking it all in.  Although he didn’t have many days off he did fined time to enjoy life. He would go camping a couple times and have a fire once and a while, all the while cruising around in vehicles watching time go by. There was 3 of them and their friendship grew strong. They were there for each other through thick and thin. Giving each other the support and advise we think is necessary. There was happieness, anger, mixed emotions and depression but they survived through and through………………

It will work out

We are young and have a long road a head of us. Some of us have debt but we know that and we want to better ourselves. I realized that we can’t just live on the edge seat all the time we need to make sure we can support ourselves in the worst. Recently I have learned about not stressing, I know stress, its my specialty. Its my worst enemy and you must think, “but why, your only 18″. Well lets look at what stress me: I am only 18 but I am 18 and have almost been out of school for a year and have absolutely no idea what to do with my life and its been this way for the last 3 years. That’s not something I should stress about, I am young and I need to enjoy life before having to deal with its reality but I can’t. I want to be able to support myself financially and to properly do this I need some sort of further education, whether it is a trade or degree. There is no way I can could support my self right now. I want to much which leads me to my second stress. The Truck. a year and a half ago at the age of 16 I went $8000 into dept to buy a truck I wanted, well guess what I’m still paying it off. Had I known better I might not of bought it but then again I think I would have but pushed a little hard to pay it off. I hope to have it paid off before mid march…. will see how long those plans last because you never know when something is going to happen and you need to spend a little more then planned. Which is number three. The snowmobile, okay maybe not the snowmobile its self but the most recent issue with this reason has to do with the snowmobile. I took another $2000 out of the line of credit to get it and with only a couple hours of riding on it I blew a piston. Which is long job to change not to mention how much it cost. Its these unexpected payments I have to make to make sure everything is working. I was lucky this time around I was able to do most of the work myself with guidance from a friend.

If there is one thing I have learned about stress or not stressing is that the problem which you are stressing over will work its self out eventually you just need to be patient. I will find something to do one day, probably nothing that I or anyone else is expecting but I will do something. I will pay the truck off eventually and yes there maybe problems with it but they will get fixed one way or another and the same with the snowmobile. I maybe bored today but maybe tomorrow will bring something or someone new……..

Never live in regret and never look back, you never know when something is gaining on you.

WARNING: Days off, may cause more work.

Okay so here it is. Sunday morning I finished my last shift of that rotation and after I got a couple hours of sleep, Taylor and I went out for a snowmobile ride. As I was just going on to Range lake I pinned it to full throttle and instead of shooting off across the lake, I bogged down. 4 Days latter and 200$ I have the sled on the lakes again. On after changing the plugs and making sure I had compression and spark I took out the carburetors, to take inside to clean out and dry. I like any redneck used my bathtub as my workshop….. On Tuesday I proceeded out and put the carbs back onto the sled and found it made no difference, what a disappointment. That evening Scott came over and we pulled it to a friends garage where it stay. Wednesday morning bright and early … well 11am by the time I was up and ready to go, I went over to the sled and started taking it apart to sadly find out that I had blown a piston! So I continued to take it apart. When I had what I needed off it was about 4:50pm and I needed to get to Force One (Polaris dealer) before 5. I got there, I needed 3 things 1 piston, 1 reed valve, and 1 base gasket. When I was in there I got 1 piston and 1 reed valve. I then drove all the way back to the sled thinking I might be able to start putting it back together tonight. WRONG. It was 10 after 5 when I realized I forgot the gasket, oh well at least I got to relax for an evening. But first thing Thursday morning and this time I mean 9:30 i went to Force One and got the gasket and with no help at all (I been getting guidance from Sam, a friend of the family, who with out him I wouldn’t have been able to do this. Thanks) I managed to get it back together and running strong by 12:30pm. I cleaned shop and took off down the road a couple time to make sure everything was in order.

That is how I spent my 4 days off. I must say I handled it better then I thought I would. You just gotta learn to take what life throws at ya.

What else has been happening in the last couple days, well theres that federal political things, but I don’t care for that anymore. I just so sick of all the politics. I want to go live in a cabin where I never hear about any of it.

What Money!

Last Night Yellowknife City Council had one of their budget meetings. Non profit organization were presenting their case on why they should get funding from the city.

First up was the Dog Sledders Society. They talked about how the Dog Race that was normally scheduled during the time of Caribou Carnival was the whole reason the carnival started. It is a historic event that has now turned into a recreational sport. Which is not only for spectating it is for participating as well creating an attraction for tourists.

Up nest was Ecology north who were looking for funding so that they could further there studies into sity wide composting. The idea seems feasible and would work but in the long run would cost more than just this funding that is being requested. The presented the idea that instead of garbage pick up once a week it would go to every other week and in the weeks where there is no garbage pick up the garbage truck would pick up your composting. But lets think about that for a second, most people hit the 3 bag limit every week and I don’t think they have a bag and a half of composting. So by the end of the 2 weeks of no garbage pick up an average house hold could have 5 bags of garbage piling up at the side of their house. Well that’s good for the cities image.

Then on to Ecology north, wait didn’t they just go up …… oh so this is for something else …… So they want more money ….. mmmmm …… blood sucker…… Apparently this is for Ecology North as a whole, while the previous presentation was just for a special project. E.North is looking for Core Funding so they can employ someone to manage there finances? I suppose they are wanting to hire this person so that they can then start proper fund raising so that they can become self sustaining. So how have they managed for the last 20 years? OH and here’s something interesting I’m sure you want to know. 3 or 4 City Councilors are also so on the Ecology North board … so .. wouldn’t that make them exempt from voting on whether or not they should get funding or not? ISN’T THAT CONFLICT OF INTEREST! HELLO!

Okay enough of that on to Folk on the Rocks. They are also looking for core funding and I’m sure you can see the benefit in them getting the money. They are huge here in the north and around Canada seems like every one’s heard of them and they have has some pretty big Canadian Musicians in past. They try and go for a 50/50 split of Norther and Southern Canadian Musicians and it work out well. It is a part of the summers tourist opportunities and having worked for a totally different type of tourism I heard that a lot of my tourist had also gone there and enjoyed it.

NEXT On to the Curling Club. They too are looking for core funding. Recently they have had to spend the money they have been saving for a dehumidifier on building building maintenance or something to that extreme. But they were not here looking for funding for that right now, which would be upwards  to a million and half. They were looking for a bit of funding to redo the paint on the walls as well a new floor. The floor which is just tiles of carpet glued to the floor is coming up because of the humidity in the building.

Okay I think the next part was my favorite, a member of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerces got up to speak. I didn’t really know what he was going to speak about, thinking why would they need money. They DID NOT! This gentlemen (who will remain nameless) got up and basically blasted the budget. Letting the councilors know what was really on his mind. He didn’t really seem to have anything good to say about it. I wish I had of recorded his speak or at least wrote down some point. I do remember though that one point when he was having a “debate” to a councilor the councilor only by mistake said something like “residential can shop down south” He right away clarified himself saying that he did support local shopping 100%. But as soon as he said that initial statement about down south some other people in the audience started shouting about “We need to stay in the north and shop in the north, we have everything down south has. It Creates Job”. Okay it does create more job (because every person wants to make $14/h at a full time job, But I will not agree with them when they say the north has everything the south does. HAVE YOU BEEN BLIND FOR 100 YEARS OR SOMETHING, we are not like the south. I support shopping locally for most things but by darn if I find a better price online or down south I’m going to buy it. I generally do, even with shipping its still cheaper. I’m on the fence with it all, I think we should shop locally and support Yellowknife but if there is a better deal somewhere else go for it (isn’t that like Business 101 or something, I thought these people were suppose to be smart). Quite frankly I think everyone should have that point of view, that way there aren’t these battles and people can’t criticizes everyone else constantly.

The final women who was also just criticizing the budget I think was a bit of a “greeny”. All he point were how we should better ourselves. She wanted the council to put more money to into outdoor winter sports such as hockey. Okay so to do that we would need interest, but who in there right mind wants to play hockey on a regular base outside in the cold. Has she seen our weather lately. I’m all for going out and enjoying the winter but we all have to draw the line somewhere.

It was really good to go see all this, I enjoy going and plan to go as often as possible from now one.

What are your veiw on council, come on I know you have something to say about them
