To the Cabin

We finally made it to the Cabin yesterday. Its was a quicker ride than I remember but we could have been moving fast than I use to. When we arrived the were snowmobile tracks going past it but it didn’t look like anybody had gone in. When I first entered I didn’t know what to expect, I hadn’t been here in about a year, so who knows what could have happened or who was there! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The mice are the biggest problem out there and I need to get on top of that. Get as much mouse poison as I can find and shove it in the walls then board up all the wholes they have made and it should be good. They were in most things including the musk-ox rugs that are out there which were mostly in pieces. It also looked like someone had gone through the cabinet and pulled everything out and taken what they wanted. The wood stove is in need of replacing, which is for my safety only…. It is an old traditional wood stove like the ones you normally use in a wall tent. The problem with this one is that over time it has rusted or burned through and there are wholes in it. There isn;t much work that needs to be done and I hope by the middle of January it should all be done and we will have January and February to enjoy it.

Bumper Tapping

Today while I was trying to escape the ferocious Wal-mart parking lot someone a couple car ahead of me bumper tapped a taxi and all hell broke loose. No seriously, I understand wanting to figure it all out but they took forever. I would have quickly got the person who hit Me’s info and carry on and make sure you both can see the damage. They were in and out of the vehicles several times doing who knows what. After about 10 minutes there were several people behind me! They were honking their horns being the agressive holiday shoppers most people are.

Accident Hold Up Accident Hold Up Accident Hold Up

After that several minutes of waiting, they finally left and so did I and I happened to go by the taxi, which had no marks on it. No even a scratch! Ironic I know.

The Cold, lets go back to that one.

The other day I wrote a post about how the cold is just cold to us Northerners and I think I may have stretched that truth a little to much unless I have just become a giant pansy in the last year. Last night before I had to start work I drove downtown and parked my truck at work and went for a walk. The point of this walk to try and get some photos of Yellowknife at night, needless to say that didn’t work. I underestimated the cold, I was not prepared for it and I’m kicking my self about it now. I didn’t freeze and I wasn’t completely stupid. I was going to go around a couple blocks and I did have the basic wear on, warm hat, warm gloves and a good jacket but that was is not enough. If I had intended to actually walk somewhere I would have wore long johns which do a very good job at keeping the wind and cold off my legs but that wasn’t the major problem I encountered  last night. It was the worst place to freeze, your face. This will sound gross but I need to describe it. As I walked I exhaled and as I did it blow the snot that was dripping from my nose forward but instead of flying off my nose it just froze there in that position. So by the time I returned to work I had an icicle sticking straight out from my face which by this point was pale and numb. Neck Warmer and a face mask is a necessary in these condition, please be advised.  As I have mentioned before I wont go out in the winter with out a proper hat near by as I frost bit my ears 3 or 4 years ago and now if they become to cold it flares up and they swell up and burn. I learned my lesson then, hopefully you don’t have to learn the same way.

Back that thang on up!

Had a bit of a scare here night, nothing serious. Just my own stupidity on this site. WordPress just released finally, 2.7 so I had installed a plug-in that was suppose to update the site automatically needless to say it didn’t work and the site crashed temparaily. In hopes that I could get it back up I manually downloaded 2.7 and opened up the wp-config.php file set the DB name, usename and password and uploaded the files onto my server. I slowly opened up firefax again the typed in w w w . t h e b u s h m a n . c a  and luckily it was up again and everything was working fine, just had to update the database and the admin is working.

Back to normal life.

Oh so it is Cold Outside

How does one blog about the cold? I was recently reading a blog at NWT-O-T-L about how cold it has been in Yellowknife lately and as I was reading I noticed how descriptive he was being about the actual cold. I could not do that. To me and to many northerners its just cold, period. Yes it has been unnormally cold the last week or so but its almost expected. I like to think someone up there is giving us this cold weather just to screw with environmentalists heads about global warming. To us up here its normal and we deal with it but to “southerners” who come up here for the first time it is a big thing. We are so dry up here, it is like no where else in Canada. When you get a humid cold it feels colder that it is because there is so much water in the air but up here it is a striking, piercing cold, that shoots throw you unless you have proper clothing on. SO dress warm.

I just checked the weather for this weekend, as I’m going to try and get to the cabin for the first time this year and saw something very odd. In 4 days it is going to go up 30 degrees to -4. That does not help me any I’m working for those days, the days I want to go to the cabin are going to be -36 with out the wind chill and when your ripping across a lake THERE IS A WIND CHILL.

The trick is to not let it beat you.

There is to much Drama.

Teenagers seem to love drama. Whether it is just on TV or if it is in their own lives. I never realized how shows like The O.C., One Tree Hill, The Hills, Degrassi and other shows like that are just like a lot of teens lives. I have never really been apart of it and I don’t want to be. I don’t have much to say about this topic because I can’t get it in to writing. I think most of the stuff is just stupid so I can’t properly write about it, yet I have no problem writing about politics….

Here’s a couple things I have noticed, whether true or not, it what I have picked up on. Lying, I watched a situation blow up over of a lie that might not have even been said just made up to better one person. Now its almost like a gang war.  There are 2 sides and they continue to send rather unintelligent cluster of words to each other. They do not seem to be getting anywhere and are mad at each other and this is what destroys friendships half the time. It is unfortunate.

NEXT! is a situation with less, whats the word, anger? What do you do when you like your best friend? What do you do when you like your best friend again, meaning you got over it and now its back. Well Lets review……. You tell them, they don’t talk to you anymore in fear it is going to be awkward. What if you have done this and time has passed and you have become friends again and the feeling arises again. What do you do then? Because you know the out come, they’ll leave you as a friend, then your really screwed or You don’t tell them at all and go on being there friend and occasionally become depressed about the ordeal.  I’m directly related to this situation and don’t know what to make of it, I can normally come up with a solution, but I can, at least not yet.

I will write back again.

But do you see how in both situations it creates tension in friendships and nothing good can come from them in the present unless there is a civilized solution.

Think about it Huh!
