Beautiful BC

Currently I’m sitting in a hotel room in Penticton, BC as there isn’t a campground with vacancy within 200km. Yesterday morning we left our Revelstoke campground and drove up a mountain, literally. 26km of inclined roads. At the summit of this mountain there were hiking trails through the meadows. There was a beautiful view and gorgeous flowers. Upon cruising down the hill again we continued west towards Kelowna. The area is very nice and the lakes look as if it were in the Caribbean. When we went through Kelowna we couldn’t find a campground so on we went. The day was getting late and as we couldn’t find anything in Penticton, we decided to just stay at a hotel. This is a short update but if you want to know more about what we are doing and where we are, check out my Twitter account @KyleWith

On the Way to the Rockies

Yesterday we were at the Dawson Creek Fair and Rodeo, where I took tons of photos. So when I get a chance I will upload them and display them.

Yesterday was also the start of the Road Trip, where I will be driving through the Rockies and Southern British Colombia. We drove to Grande Prairie from Dawson Creek late last night in order for my father to catch a flight back home early this morning. As he is now gone we will probably stick around GP for a couple hours and stop by some shops. Once we are done that we will head to Jasper, Alberta, which is a 395km drive. There we will spend the night and take in the sites.

Will try and update as often as possible, with pictures as well.

Hope everyone is having a great summer.

First iPhone Video – Driving Down the Highway

I finally decided to try out making a video from my iPhone. I must say the video and audio quality is very good and if it weren’t for my own stupidity of recording it sideways it probably would have been great.

Anyways I’m here in East Pine, BC from a couple days. I will be heading to the Dawson Creek Rodeo tomorrow and then on to Grande Prairie and Jasper Monday.

I will trying and keep the updates coming.

Been Gone

Seems like the Internet Gods are preventing me from having Internet steadily.

At my apartment I was suppose to get my Shaw Modem earlier today but it did not arrive. I’m hoping it comes tomorrow (Friday) so I can have  internet for the weekend. Dawson Creek also advertises they have free WiFi Internet with in the downtown core for tourists. Now my apartment falls in this area but for some reason their Internet isn’t working either. Drives me nuts.

That is why I haven’t been posting much on this site as well as YkOnline. Unfortunately this wont be changing for at least a week. I’m heading out on a BC Road Trip and probably wont be online for days at a time.

Thanks to Days Inn I was able to publish this quickly.

Couple of Days in & out of Dawson Creek

Man it is hard to get Internet here in Dawson Creek. They offer free WiFi in the downtown core but for some reason it isn’t working and I haven’t hooked up the Internet in my apartment. But anyways.

Yesterday seems like a blur, as I didn’t do much. I lay in my camper for most of the morning listening to the rain falling and pound onto the tin roof. Finally venturing into the house when the rain stopped around noon my brother and I set off to town. The 45 minute drive was delayed a lovely 30 minutes because of road construction but it wouldn’t be summer with out it. Once we arrived in town I convinced my brother to help me unload my truck at my apartment before disappearing to the skatepark. When we finished unpacking the truck it was about 3 o’clock and by that point it was very hot outside. Just standing in one spot was making me sweet. I started to sort out my “crap” and put it in place. My loving mother had packed me some dry food and kitchen for stuff and I hadn’t realized how much stuff it really was. I ended up with multiple boxes of hamburger helper, packs of sidekick noodles, 4 jars of peanut butter as well as 3 jars of her homemade strawberry jam (keep an eye out for her at the craft sales this Christmas season) and much more stuff.

Soon enough 4:30 rolled around Bev showed up at the apartment and helped me move in the bigger stuff while we waited for Ken to get off work. We then picked up Taylor and Ken and split up into the 2 vehicles again and left town. Of course on our way back to East Pine we got caught in the construction again, but no biggy.

The evening was a nice, cool, relax one in the house and we had the famous ribs the literally fall off the bone. The rest of the night was uneventful and I felt exhausted but couldn’t think of why because I really didn’t do much.

As I think about it now I wasn’t online much yesterday even when it was available. I think the trick is to cut yourself off cold turkey and then you won’t see the need to always be online. Ha. I bet that will change again when I get internet in my place.

Well that was yesterday and now is the today.

We (my brother and I) had to head up to Fort St. John to he could catch a plane to Vancouver for his skateboarding tour. I had set my alarm for 8am and we were going to leave by 9am. So when the alarm on my phone went off at 8am I got up and went into the house to wake my brother. Upon doing so he yelled at me exclaiming that it was only 7am. Confused and not convinced I spent a good 15 minutes searching for something that would have the proper time. Realizing the landline phone had the time on it and sure enough it was only 7:15. Not caring that I had gotten up early I left my brother along and proceded throwing stuff into the truck to take to the apartment later in the day.

The drive to the Fort St. John Airport was quick, as I didn’t have to go through any construction sites. They have a really nice airport, a slight bit smaller than Yellowknife’s but very modern. We waited for a while and then it was time for Taylor to board he did, nervously though as he doesn’t like flying at all let along by himself. I took off south to Dawson Creek and when I arrived in town a mire hour and 15 minutes I got a text proclaiming he had landed and had a good flight.

While in Dawson this afternoon I managed to set up my bed frame as well as my complex desk. After doing that I decided I was too hot and needed something cold and thought about the newly open café 30 seconds from my apartment. I also was hoping they would have Internet as well but no such luck. So instead I sit here in the somewhat air condition café sipping a Strawberry Italian Soda typing this out in Word.

That is all for this update, hopefully next time I have an update I will be able to publish it as soon as I write it. But until then I will go back to my apartment and clean up and head back out to East Pine half hour a head of the Wiebes.

Drive from Yellowknife to Grande Prairie

This will be quick as I do not have the patients to write out an elaborate post tonight. So this will be more of a photo blog.

All packed and ready to go the night before.

DSC_0006

At 5am Yellowknife look like it was going to be a nice day.

DSC_0015

This was a neat photo I randomly caught crossing the bridge at Rae.

DSC_0025

We saw lots of buffalo on the road, lots of which were just standing on the road.

DSC_0031

There was still lots of bridge construction going on.

DSC_0053

The ferry ride was uneventful. I think I have lived in the north to long.

DSC_0055

The wee town of Grimshaw.

DSC_0064

I normally try and take photos of the beautiful Dunvagan Valley but because the construction on the bridge, which I am fairly certain has been happening for 3 years now, I wanted to focus on driving.

This was our little set up in the Grande Prairie campground. I thought it was very redneck to have a lazy boy and computer chair set up outside.

DSC_0080

I was always uncertain as to how much the bunk could hold. I think there was about 200lbs on it and it didn’t collapse on my brother so it must be decent.

We spent most of today in Grande Prairie shopping and skateboarding. We also drove over to Wembley to check out a new skatepark we were told about. I must say for a small farming town, it was a pretty nice.

Note* We got to Dawson as well today and I was able to get my apartment. I will put up another post with picture tomorrow.
