Some may know, some may not. I will tell you a bit anyway. I do have my own business called With Media, William Thomas, which is the company behind YkOnline It is classed as a media Internet company or something like that. When I applied for the business license it was difficult to describe to them then, what it would fall under, but anyways… I am about to apply for the SEED and BDIC funding from the GNWT. Which I may or may not get. In the application process one of the things I have to do, is describe what it is I do and whether or not it can generate enough revenue. This is kind of a funny coincidence because it seems to be a topic among some of us in the blogging realm. I will basically need to describe what blogging – YkOnline – is as well as Podcasting – I have plans to get into this more – and then some multimedia/website building stuff. Thanks to Megan /a> I will use her blog post about explaining these things in plain english.
Either way this goes, it will be good to experience because for the first time since starting all these things, business, podcasting, blogging, I will actually have it down on paper what I do. Not only will it give others the knowledge of what I want to do, but it might give me the clarity and a new perspective of how I want to go about doing it.
Over the next couple day I will start writing all this up for the application and may share some of it here on this blog. To finish off I will leave you with this video, Podcasting in Plain English.
Throughout the day I was pondering the topic should Radio Hosts be on twitter. I thought it out and wanted to record my thoughts on the matter, it was going to be great. I had several points to make and I even tweeted it and got other opinions from twitter. An hour later when it came time to record the show, I blanked. Another case of Thoughtless Kyle came up. So I was not able to talk about it as much as I wanted but still came up with a couple decent points, if that.
When I blanked I wanted to continue with the show, so I started talking about something I want to build in 2010. The With Media Network, a network of podcastes. I share a couple ideas I have so far and hope I can be successful in this adventure. In the back of my head, a very faint dream, would be to make blogging and podcasting my full time job. I know it would be a long shot, but it is something I really want to do and I think the north would like it.
Lately I have been having trouble explaining what it is I do all the time online, I’m referring to YkOnline How do you explain what a blog is to a person who doesn’t often go online? How do you convince them it is the way the world is moving?
When I started YkOnline I made the choice to create its own Twitter account. Mainly because at that time I thought twitter was the greatest thing invented and I was full on driving the bandwagon. Nowadays I’m not so sure that was a good idea, but that is a different post, for another time.
What I want to get at is a plugin I quickly installed for YkOnline What the plugin does is, every time a reader comments on a post on the blog, it then gets sent to the YkOnlineTwitter account. The way I have it set up, its says “[NEW COMMENT] <Start of Comment> LINK TO COMMENT”.
I was listening to an interesting conversation about Twitter Japan. Reports are they might be starting to charge for tweets. So what I got from it is, if you want to follow a certain person and see their tweets, you will have to pay for it.
I am against this but I did start thinking about it. If you are a person in power, a celeb, leader, or influencer maybe you could. I;m the type of person who generally wont pay for little things like this, but I’m willing to bet there are tons of people who would. Think of all the teenage girls who would be willing to pay to find out what Taylor Swift is doing throughout the day. Although I know the majority of people who will read this wont agree, I want you to think more like a business person. Can you not see there is a market there.
Now the question is would one of these people be more powerful behind a pay wall or with more followers as it is now?
Tonight I found one new social networking site through another.
First I found Blellow when I was listening to a podcast and thought it was a site worth checking out. I’m not sure how to describe it, kind of like how it was hard to describe twitter for a while.
I believe it can be compared to twitter for work groups and social media. Once you have an account you are able to join groups and anytime your status has anything to do with a certain group you can associate it with it. If you happen to have a question about something you simply go to the group that it best fits (ie. Wordpress question, Wordpress Group) and ask. Then others in that group can @reply you with answers. If someone answers your question for you, you can kudos them. By doing this it shows everyone that that user has a knowledge about that group. I have included the introduction videos below to help you understand what it is better. Head on over and sign up and follow me, I’ll follow you back .
Doesn’t that video look familiar…..
My second fined, I found through Blellow somehow. It is called TwitIQ but I think that is slightly miss leading. Most of us use twitter desktop clients but for those of you who don’t, this is the site for you. Think of it as the Twitter site on steroids. It has everything a desktop client has and more including multiple accounts. On your homepage it shows the feed of those you are following as well as keywords used, trending topics and popular RTs among your friends. You are also given 4 other tabs at the top of the page, Mentions, DMs, People (descriptions of those you are following) and Channels (which are saved searches). I think this site has potential but I think it could do for a better name and I would like to see custom groups. Check it out nonetheless.
