Fort St John Social Media Day

I’m am disappointed to say that Fort St John is not celebrating Social Media Day. It was something I really wanted to head up and get something going, but unfortunately on this day, June 30, 2011, I am actually driving back from Yellowknife to Fort St John.

Social Media Day is a day when over 1300 communities across the world get together with themselves offline. The people within these communities get to meet each other, they connect, they talk, they enjoy each others time. According to Mashable Social Media Day is a day to celebrate Media becoming Social.

Just because we are missing Social Media Day doesn’t mean we can’t ramp up our Social Community in Fort St John. I would like to see us become even more of an online community than we already are. Since I’m sure most of the people who will read this are already participating on Twitter and Facebook, I want you, over the next week, to get someone you know on Twitter. Show them how it works and show them why it can actually beneficial to them.

By next year I want Fort St John to celebrate Social Media Day like we should!

Photos of the Drive to Yellowknife

Well with my last day in Yellowknife coming up fast I thought I should get around to sharing the photos I took on my way north. The drive was pretty smooth and enjoyable, you can watch the videos here and here.

The weather was really nice for most of the trip expect for in Enterprise where it was raining and there between Fort Providence and Rae where it was smokey.

Disney Pixar’s BRAVE Trailer

I was wondering the other day after the theatrical release of Cars 2 if Pixar was moving away from their warm hearted, meaningful movies to the money makers. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Cars 2 is great, but it seems a little to much like riding a franchise wave to me. That and Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but that isn’t Pixar.

Released yesterday was a short trailer for Pixar’s next film “Brave”. It doesn’t show us much. Kevin McKidd, of Grey’s fame, does a voice over for it, as a lone person rides a horse through a forest in search for something. The final scene of the trailer then shows us this young girl, who was the rider, taking aim with her bow at a bear.

I’m not even sure what the storyline will be for this movie, but it does look good.

Thoughts? Anyone else excited?

Finding the Mighty Bald Eagle

In true Steve Irwin style I went adventuring in search of the mighty bald eagle. I found one of the magnificent creatures and one of her chicks on an island on Great Slave Lake.

What should I search for next.

New 60th Parallel NWT Border Sign

If you have driven in or out of the Northwest Territories lately you would have noticed that the NWT Border sign has changed. So far I have actually heard a lot of mixed reviews. Some people really don’t like it.

Personally I like it, although I’m not sure where the green colour comes from. I have never seen it used in NWT branding before, but whatever. I feel this sign looks modern and edgy. It appears to give a fresh impression of what the NWT has to offer.

I wish I still had a picture of the old one somewhere so we could compare. It felt very 80′s and had been written on so much it started to look dirty. I’m happy with the change. What do you think? Want to visit the NWT?

Fort St John to Yellowknife (Part 2)

I made it to the ferry in this video. The mighty Merv Hardie that crosses the MacKenzie River. It may not be a BC Ferry, but it is still an exciting part of my trip because it is something different to look at.

After gassing up at the Fort Providence gas station I continue on. The last part of this video is just after I passed through the “forest fire” area, which really only ended up being about a kilometer stretch on the road.
